Since learning how to play last week at Open Board Game Night, I picked up a copy of the Famous Aces set.  I also got a few planes.  I want to play this more, anyone up for a larger game as part of the War College?

Anyway so I taught my kids (11 and 7 years old) last night.  I figured that we would each take a plane, and I would lose, but I could make a good run at them.  My kids had a SPAD (Nick) and a Camel (Matt), I figured that I would need the extra durability of an Albatros (and it didn't help too much, but got me a couple of turns).

Early on I moved right (toward Matt) so that I could try to break the fight up into two 1-on-1 fights.  I figured Matt would be an easier target being younger.  I approached as fast as I could but the kids managed to get and stay together without talking to each other, for a while.  I took a hit from each of them, but only managed to get one shot on the SPAD (and jammed my guns to boot).  After that we danced around a bit and they Matt got a shot in on me, then two as I chased Nick and was hurting him.  Nick took a bank that I didn't follow trying to shake Matt.  Nick crossed the board (he had engine damage) and Matt gets me again and jams my rudder.  My plane has been beaten up, but it is mostly cosmetic (many 0's and 1's).  I chased the wounded Nick, and he kept turning as Matt closed (Matt turned the wrong way trying to follow me and got left behind).  We had a couple of head on passes after and I went down after the second one.

At the end Nick was one point away from joining me, and I never even shot at Matt.

Overall they got the game quickly and had the spatial skills to move effectively with the cards.  Now I need a Red Baron mini for Matt who asked immidiately, "So where is the Red Baron's plane?" when I first showed him the game.

I'd be up for a larger group.  We can even use the full rules.
I too have Famous Aces and some of the planes.

This sounds like a great idea!  I'll reach out to Norm and see if we can get something planned!
