Hey all! I've decided to call my "reimagined" campaign "Paragons of Waterdeep." Wes, since you aren't in the loop lately, I've asked the group (begged, really) if I could move my campaign over to the Forgotten Realms setting. The reason being that I have had a serious time crunch happen at work that's not going to let up, and I have a much better grasp of the setting and much better resources, having run games in the Realms in the past. This should be no big deal to one and all, since we only had a couple of Dragonlance sessions, and it's going to be cake to switch over with just minor tweaking to your characters.

For those of you who are interested, the campaign will start in the year 1369 Dale Reckoning. Now, don't feel a great need to study the Realm heavily. It's a great setting that's close to being generic medieval fantasy, closer than Dragonlance at least. But it's got a great flavor. As usual, you don't need to be masters of setting lore. Here's the bare bones starter backgrounds for you all from which you can grow more complicated backgrounds if you want:

Oisin and Vorath are from a small village near Waterdeep. They are newly arrived in Waterdeep at the start of the game. Oisin just joined the temple of Lathander not long ago. Vorath traveled with him because the mage inherited a small home in the city from his recently deceased mentor. Kale is an elf ranger from the nearby High Forest, to the east of Waterdeep. She is part of a group of rangers that help her people fight against near-constant raids by humanoids and other dangers in the forest. The High Forest was an ancient elven ancestral home, but as time has passed and more elves have left, it has been slowly taken over by humanoids and other monsters. Wes, when you return to our table, your character Keseim is a new arrival to Waterdeep from the realm of Calimshan, far to the south. Your mentor is an old friend of the high priest of Lathander in Waterdeep.

So, you guys are free to take those backgrounds and build more details from there, as you see fit.

I have some light homework for you all before the session next Wednesday! Seriously, it's no big deal. Here goes:

Grin If you are not too familiar with the Forgotten Realms setting, check out wikipedia or other resources online and get a general feel for it.[/li][/list]
Grin Bill, do some light reading about Lathander, your character's new god.
Grin Everyone do an inventory of your character sheets. Now's the time to take a moment to make sure you have good adventuring equipment listed, and also take stock of your character's weapons, abilities, spells, etc. Refamiliarize yourselves with your characters.
Grin You are all keeping the experience points that you earned from the Dragonlance campaign. If I'm not mistaken, you should all have about 720 XP. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

That's all for now. Please do not hesitate to ask questions you may have! I hope you are all excited as I am for next Wednesday night! Talk to you all soon!

Hey Wes! Glad you are into the homework! I'm not sure how much you know about the Realms. You might want to read up on Calimshan. More specifically Calimport, which I think would be a cool place for Keseim to hail from...just a thought...

I have been doing my reading on the pantheon of Forgotten Realms and think that Lathander will suit Oisin well.  I see that novices are called "Awakened" and full priests are called "Dawnbringers".  There also appear to be many titles for Dawnbringers but I'm not sure if they are simply ranks or have specific duties.  Is Oisin considered a Dawnbringer?

Hey Bill. Yes, Oisin is a full cleric, so he is considered Dawnbringer Oisin. Awakened would be 0-level novices/acolytes.
