Rule question Ice fisher,an

Ice fisherman says, "marshaling: kneel to take one gold from an opponents old pool."

My question is, can I use this ability after they get their go,d but before my opponent pays for a card?

The first player gets first action. After they draw their gold from the gold pool. You can take the gold before they play a card, if you are the first player.
