Savage Worlds

I just figured I would start a thread for Savage Worlds (SW). I'm in the Wednesday night Castles & Crusades (C&C) group and run SW when we are between campaigns etc. It seems like a lot of the people who have been in our C&C group play or have played SW at some point. I'm running Savage Worlds of Solomon Kane on Wednesdays (after 6:00PM) for the next 3 weeks or so while our GM re-tools to run a Labyrinth Lord campaign. If folks want to check it out, you are welcomed to! It didn't dawn on me to bring extra characters, until I got questions last week. If you are familiar with the Solomon Kane stories by Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan), my setting is set a little later (early to mid 1700's). If you are not familiar with SW, check it out! They have a great licensing policy, so there are tons of interesting settings.

By the way, Pinnacle Entertainment Group makes a stripped down version of the rules for SW available for free on their website (link below), so that you can try it before you buy it. Under Savage Worlds - Core, see the link for Test Drive Rules for a PDF of the basic rules.
The link that I had posted originally with this post did not work, since Pinnacle changed their site. Here is the new working link for free core SW materials, including the Test Drive.

Hey Bill, did it seem like it was pretty croweded in there last Wednesday? Also, are people still playing D&D 4E that night as well? I was wondering if it's getting cramped in there...

I'll be there tomorrow night. Pam can most likely make it too, but I'll know more when she gets home from work tonight. There were definitely more people in the store than usual, but we had our table in the back pretty much to ourselves. I think that the 4E folks were over by the southern window, but I don't really remember.

Pam and I are up for Savage Worlds tomorrow night, as long as I don't have any more work emergencies...

Hey all, I won't be albe to make it tonight for SW. I'm guessing that Mark will be there, as he said he's pretty much ready to go on Wednesday nights. I hope to be back next week, but won't be able to make the 25th. I'm still shooting for starting Labyrinth Lord on May 2nd, and things seem to be coming along with that date being go time for me.
Anyway, talk to you all soon, and hope you guys get a chance to have some fun tonight!

Thanks all for playing tonight! Great session. You all are a bunch of dirty fighters, but it's hilarious! Welcome back, Josh!
Here is a link to the character sheets for Savage Worlds of Solomon Kane, as we discussed last session:

The above link has links to both character and ally sheets for Solomon Kane.

I have that Solomon Kane book, it is probably the most beautiful RPG book I own. Savage Worlds is a great system. I especially love the damage system that allows for things other than physical damage to get enemies to the all important shaken status. Hope you guys are having fun, glad to see you are still playing on Wed nights.

Glad to hear from you, Rich! The Kane book does have a high production value, by any gaming company's standards! SW is proving to be a good system while Anthony is getting ready for his Labyrinth Lord campaign. It seems to scale nicely if we have a larger group one week and a smaller one the next or vice versa. Larger battles are easy because you don't have to track hit points and extras can be swapped in and out under control of the players for support. Role playing and investigative scenarios seem to play out smoothly as well, as with most rules light systems. The Solomon Kane setting added the edges of Dirty Fighter and Really Dirty Fighter and seems to especially encourage players to do more than just physical attacks. Our group was doing things like tripping their adversaries, BS'ing them about mystic forces, taunting the tax collectors, intimidating an angry mob, casting area effect spells in a crowded pub as a distraction, etc. If you find yourself in the area on a Wednesday night, feel free to drop in!

Hey fellow gamers! Hope all is well. Unfortunately, all is NOT well on my end. I won't be able to make it tonight or next Wednesday. I'm actually in the process, this week and next, of helping to organize a town watch and get it off the ground. Our town's been getting hit lately with more and more crimes of every sort: people breaking into cars to steal stuff, car tires getting slashed, cars being spray painted with profanity, houses showing signs of someone trying to break in, and strangers looking into people's houses through windows. So, yeah, good times. Anyway, the community is banding together hard core, and I've volunteered to be a part of the formation. So, just wanted to let you know what is up on my end.
I'm really sorry that I'll be missing the SW action this week and next. I'm still on pace to start Labyrinth Lord on May 2nd, so stay tuned. Talk to you all soon, and hope you have fun tonight!

Sorry to hear about the crime spree in your town, Anthony. Hopefully, things get better soon. Put up the Bat Signal! We had a good session on Wednesday and left our group in combat because I completely lost track of time. You know you've got a good group when the GM loses track of time! I'll try to remember character sheets and some pictures of 18th century weapons for next time. I know that the weapons are pretty different in our setting from most RPG's and our diverse group has come across a range of items like Jaeger rifles, muskets of various types, fowlers, hirschfangers, infantry sabers, flintlocks, wheellocks, matchlocks, main gauches, sword kanes, etc. Definitely having fun running SW, but can't wait to see what you do with Labyrinth Lord at the same time, Anthony!

Hay, that sucks about your town. I hope you find and catch the ruffians.
That would be cool to see those weapons. See you tonight.
